West-Vlaanderen

In West-Vlaanderen bunkers were mainly concentrated along the coast, starting from the Dutch border at Cadzand village all the way down to the boarder with France, near village De Panne. In the year 1944 the coastal area consisted of 1 Stützpunktgruppe. In this region nowadays some interesting bunkers and bunker complexes still remain. In our opinion they are unique to Belgium, specially because so much has been destroyed after the war. These are the type 117a in village Stene, type 117a and 622 in village De Haan and type 636 in village Breedene. The Naval battery in the dunes of Raversijde village and the Army battery in village Nieuwpoort are not to be missed.
