Airfields
Fortifications
A part of German bunkers and supporting structures were build on and around small and langer airfields. Most of the time, the airfields were not directly situated at the coast. As a result, they were not integrated in the coastal defence. But, because of the importance of airfields to the German Air Force, they were heavily defended by anti-aircraft batteries and infantry strongpoints as well. Anti-aircraft batteries, infantry positions, radar stations, aircraft hangars, supportive buildings and infrastructure were erected on the European fields.
After the battle
Nowadays you can find remains of German airfields from Norway all the way down to the south of France.
